Winx Club - The definitive ranking of all the transformations - part 1
We all knew this post was coming
Hey, Gworl! Every Winxer has made one of these lists before, whether in their head or online. It’s fun, it’s light-hearted – it’s a rite of passage, at this point. Let’s put the transformation music playlist on and share our feelings about some sparkly fairy outfits!
This ranking only includes the transformations from the main show that have completely original outfits. As such, power-ups like Charmix, Sophix, Lovix, and Crystal Sirenix aren’t included because they add elements to already existing ones.
In order to make the ranking easier to read, it is split into two posts. This one includes transformations ranked 10 to 6. The one which I’ll upload next week includes the rest. Please know that these rankings are purely based on my opinion and are created to be fun.
10.Mythix
Mythix is the secondary transformations of season 6 which the Winx earn to be able to access the Legendarium world – the world of myths, stories, and legends. It is one of two transformations shown in 3D in the Winx Club TV show, while also being the only one to be exclusively seen in 3D.
I tried giving Mythix the benefit of the doubt for a bit before making this post, but in my heart I knew it is the only fitting choice for my least favourite Winx transformation. The reasons for that are many, but let’s start with the positives.
In the 3D transformation featured in season 5 – Sirenix – each girl has the same shape of wings. This was presumably done to make them easier to animate. I’m really happy that the Mythix wings were made to fit each of the Winx. However, only Stella and Aisha’s look good to me. Also, I like Musa and Stella’s shoes. Anytime Stella’s in a knee-high boot is a good time. The song is nice. It has the potential to be great. The verses are really good in my opinion, but the chorus lyrics are incredibly repetitive, which makes it borderline unlistenable. The song overall is still an earworm, though, and I listen to it quite often.
The 3D models featured in the transformation sequence and the Legendarium world look featureless. The Winx’s faces are perfectly smooth and round. It looks like all detail has been wiped off them, making them look like clay figures but if the clay was unbaked. It’s giving The Sims 4.
As Thomas Vaccaro (aka The Unicorn of War) said in his first video about the transformations, the Mythix outfits look like generic prom dresses. You can find that video here. Personally, Flora’s outfit is by far the worst offender in this category. They just gave her a shapeless dress and cinched it with a belt. It’s monochromatic with no other accents whatsoever. Anyone could have worn this, along with the shoes which are just ankle boots with roses stuck to them. Everything about the outfit looks tacky and cheap.
This transformation comes with wands. Each Winx has her own. They obviously exist just to sell toys, but their designs are cute enough. Despite being seen almost exclusively in 3D, however, their models are flat. When turned sideways, they are squished and thin.
Aisha has my favourite Mythix transformation due to her dress having accents which resemble water, as well as a great colour palette. It actually looks like it could be from a magical realm. Her shoes aren’t bad either.
9.Cosmix
Season 8 of Winx Club centres around the girls travelling across the universe and saving the stars whose light had been snuffed out. The picture above shows “Cosmix”, the primary transformation of said season which allows the Winx to bring the stolen light back to the stars.
While the transformation sequences are beautiful and reminiscent of the older ones like Believix, they are much too quick and don’t do enough to make up for the lack of whimsy in the outfits themselves. The song which plays during said sequences is very good. The verses truly shine. The melody during those parts is really original compared to other transformation songs, the accompanying lyrics are also quite nice. That being said, while I wouldn’t skip the song if it started playing randomly, I don’t seek it out regularly either. It’s fun to hear it every once in a while, but not catchy enough for me to play it every day.
Onto the outfits. It looks like the “science fiction / space” theme of the season swallowed the “fairy” elements which were supposed to be present in them. I appreciate the effort to go the futuristic route, but to me, it feels like the suits were designed separately and the wings were an afterthought. Considering that Cosmix is only ever seen in 2D, I cannot justify the wings being the same shape for every Winx.
Cosmix is not placed last because I like that each Winx Club member has a different outfit. While I would love to see other silhouettes than the ones shown, I like the little details that make each of them unique. Musa has my favourite look. The star-shaped buttons on her top are so cute and I love how the top naturally goes together with the skirt. Plus, her colour palette makes nearly every outfit gorgeous.
She is followed by Bloom. Her Cosmix form reminds me a bit of her Magic Winx (or Charmix for the people who watched the Nick dub). Probably because of the long detached sleeves and that beautiful teal colour she is rocking.
8.Butterflix
Butterflix is the primary transformation in season 7, which is all about helping animals and keeping them safe from harm. It is closely tied to nature.
These outfits are amongst the most uniform ones in the show, but I love their style. The fairy vibe that’s missing from Cosmix is present with Butterflix in heaps. The patterns of the dresses are very beautiful, along with the ballerina-like skirts that they have. They fit the nature theme of the transformation really well. I also like the little accents which each fairy has. The best part of the transformation for me, however, are the wings. I love their shapes and the intricate patterns within them. They reflect the personality and/or power source of each Winx without being too obvious about it.
I’m unsure about the hairstyles, though. On one hand, I like them and they stand out as beautiful to me, on the other, I wish they were more distinct to each girl because the outfits are so similar. Specifically, Musa, Flora, and Bloom all have the same ponytail but in different colours. Stella’s ponytail is my favourite because of the braids in it and the lack of the butterfly hairbands.
The Butterflix transformation sequence lasts over three minutes. However, the girls only spend a bit over a minute of that time transforming. The rest is taken up by awkward dancing, which became the biggest meme of the entire fandom. I believe it was put in there because of the TikTok dance trend, thus encouraging the kids watching to recreate it, but as an older viewer I skipped it every time because I felt second-hand embarrassment for the Winx.
As for the song; it’s nice, though probably my least favourite transformation song of the show. None of them are downright bad to me, but this is the one I am most likely to skip if it started playing. However the chorus gets stuck in my head. I just don’t like the lyrics, they could be better.
Musa’s Butterflix form is my favourite. I love the way her signature colours look on the dress. Additionally, she looks the best with a ponytail out of all of the Winx. The best part of her look are the wings. I love how they look like sheet music because of the notes inside of them. Stella isn’t far behind, and neither is Flora. Honestly, no one looks bad (as long as they don’t dance).
7.Sirenix
Sirenix is the main transformation of season 5 of Winx Club. It is an ancient fairy power which is heavily connected to the sea. As previously said, it appears in 3D and 2D. Both versions are shown above.
Season 5 is very divisive in the fandom and so are its transformations. Sirenix is hyped up to be ancient, notoriously difficult and dangerous to obtain, during the first half of the fifth season. The outfit designs don’t reflect that. They are really modern and simple, which is why it gets so much hate. Despite that, I find them to be alright. Not great, but not the worst either – clearly.
Unlike season 6 and Mythix, the 3D models used in season 5 have more depth to them. The faces look more stylised and detailed. The shading on them is also much better. They still look like clay, but the clay is better sculpted and a bit more baked. The 3D transformation sequences are alright, too.
As for the outfits; surprise – they are all uniform. Looking past that, I really like Bloom and Musa’s in the 3D version of Sirenix. I love the purple coral pattern on Bloom’s tights, as well as the colours of her shoes and the fin detail on them. Once again, Musa’s colour scheme is making her outfit 10 times better. That purple is absolutely amazing. She is also slaying with that ponytail. Their skirts contrast really well with the rest of their clothing, making the Sirenix forms more interesting.
The wings are… not good. In my opinion, Sirenix has the worst wings design across the show. I can’t find a single positive thing about it that stands out enough to me. Maybe there wasn’t enough time or money to rig and animate different shapes of them in 3D, but that doesn’t give the wings an excuse to be boring.
Stella’s 3D Sirenix is fine, and so is Flora’s, but they are amazing in 2D. I love their hairstyles, as well as the patterns on their tights. Bloom’s ponytail also looks much better in 2D. The colours of all the outfits look more vibrant in 2D and it does wonders for this transformation. Well… except for Tecna and Aisha. Unfortunately, their Sirenix colour palettes are beyond saving. This is the one time Aisha’s transformation looks bad to me.
It would be criminal not to talk about the Sirenix transformation song. It’s a certified BOP! I know all the English lyrics and most of the Italian ones. I have played it so much that I got a bit fed up with it. Even though I play it less often now, it is still one of the best Winx transformation songs. Slay.
6.Tynix
Tynix appeared in season 7 of Winx Club as a secondary transformation. It allows the Winx to travel to dimensions known as the miniworlds. When their balance is disturbed, the Winx have to restore it by using this power.
I love the aesthetic of this transformation! The outfits all look similar to one another, but they are so pretty. The gems on the dresses are the perfect accents, they compliment them very well. I also really love the hairstyles which the Winx are sporting. Flora with pink highlights? Yes, please! The headband she is wearing reminds me of the one with cat ears from season 4 and I am here for it!
Tynix and Cosmix both give off the same vibe when it comes to styling; there’s one distinct silhouette across the board, but with enough tweaking so that it doesn’t come off as purely one outfit being recoloured, which is the case with Sirenix and Butterflix. Unlike Cosmix, however, Tynix is ethereal, magical, and fashionable. This is what a Winx transformation should be. I also quite like the crystal-inspired wings and their colours. I need the dolls of the Winx in these looks!
The Tynix transformation sequence is the shortest one to ever be featured in the show, being just over a minute long. This hurts it a lot. Bloom, Stella, and Musa are the only Winx fairies who get a solo full body shot of their outfit. Aisha, Flora, and Tecna’s outfits are only seen fully in the group shot shown above. Bloom is the only one we see get her wings since she gets three solo shots while the rest of her friends get one or two.
The shots we see are very beautiful, but it feels like most of the Winx were underpaid and decided to go home before they finished filming their scenes, if they were real actors. The transformation needed to be longer.
The Tynix song matches the feeling of the transformation perfectly. It’s airy, ethereal, and high-fashion. It sounds like it would be in an advertisement for a fancy perfume. However the lyrics are really repetitive and the vocals are drowned out by the instrumental that I don’t listen to it by itself. When I hear it I usually am watching the show and/or the transformation.
And with this gem of a transformation we’ve come to the end of this part of my definitive ranking of Winx transformations! If you want to keep chatting with me, be sure to leave a comment below and we can discuss our thoughts further. If you just wish to stay in the Fort for a while, there are a lot more posts you can check out or you can just grab some tea, coffee, or ice cream and watch some Winx transformation MV’s online.
Thank you so much for coming and looking at some sparkly fairy fashions ith me. I hope to see you again soon! Bye :3
