5 Bratz items from my wishlist
I’ve got a passion for fashion and an empty wallet
I have been looking at Bratz dolls a lot lately and I wanna share the ones I wanna buy the most, currently. It probably won’t happen anytime soon, but a boy can dream. Grab some pillows and pick a plushie or five and let’s pay a visit to the girls with a passion 4 fashion.
“Live in Concert” Dana
I first saw Jade wearing Dana’s outfit in the “Bratz” animated show and I was stunned right then and there. Dana looks incredible in this line. I adore the colour choices for this outfit, as well as the almost retro-futuristic silhouette it has.
The sleeves of her top are see-through, as well as the trim of her pants. While this adds to the futuristic vibe, I’m not sure if I like it; it might have looked better had her top been sleeveless and if her pants had no trim, instead being completely made out of the metallic leather-like material. Even so, I love the way her top is made unique and is accented with a belt on her shoulder that matches the one around her waist. The clear plastic was used very well in the top itself, as it connects to the metallic part of it, creating the illusion of asymmetry.
The ankle boots?? Serve. From the way they go perfectly with the rest of the outfit, to their shape – serve. My favourite thing about this doll is, however, her hair. I adore the way the purple highlights in her pigtails and bangs go with her silver (almost white?) hair. The sleek design of the headset makes it go perfectly with the rest of the outfit, not standing out as a gimmick, while still keeping it on-theme.
This doll is just perfect. I did have some critiques, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t out-of-this-world incredible.
“Live in Concert” Yasmin
Honestly, I want the whole “Live in Concert” line; it was very hard not to include them all in here. What can I say? These dolls are just amazing. Can we take a moment to acknowledge that?
Okay – moment done. Let’s talk about Yasmin. Just like Dana; she has killer hair game. I love the contrast between her brown hair and the pink highlights, it makes them stand out in the best way possible. I also adore the way the highlights are incorporated with her hairstyle; the way they frame her hairline and wrap around her buns is incredible to me. Her eyeshadow and lipstick go really well together and are one of my other favourite elements about this doll.
Her top might be my favourite of the whole line. I adore the way it’s constructed of two pieces; the upper white part with a cut-out and the metallic lower part, which gives it a corset-like look. The see-through pink belts on the top tie it together and provide a good connecting point between the two different parts.
Speaking of belts; the one on her pants brings the top part of the outfit and the bottom part together. The pink streaks on the doll’s pants give them a striking, yet flattering and fashionable silhouette, elevating the look further. The trim of the pants is okay. I don’t think it was necessary, but it isn’t bad either. The boots are quite beautiful as well, being mostly silver, but having a pink heel.
Wow. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos and seen a lot of pictures of this doll, and in every single one of them, she is flawless. Definitely at the top of my wishlist!
“Bratz x JimmyPaul Designer Pride” Roxxi and Nevra
It made me so happy to see this set released in 2022. It speaks to me, and I believe, many other queer people who have grown up with the Bratz, to see LGBTQIA+ representation in one of our favourite franchises.
Nevra and Roxxi look incredible in this set. Starting with the makeup; I love how bold it is. I love the contrast of Roxxi’s lipstick against her eyeshadow and the way her eyeliner brings her eyes out. Nevra’s makeup is my favourite out of any other doll’s makeup in this post. I love the way the bisexual colours make her eyeshadow up, as well as the shade of her lipstick.
I absolutely adore Roxxi’s rainbow boa and Nevra’s long rainbow coat; yes they are very bold and bright, but that’s the point of the set, and they are still very fashionable. I am not a fan of straw hats, so I don’t like Nevra’s as much, however I like the pride pins on the brim. On the other hand, the spikes on Roxxi’s hat elevate it from an ordinary cap and add just enough edge to reflect her personality, along with the pins on the side.
Going over Roxxi’s outfit underneath the boa; the print on her jacket which continues on her skirt is beautiful. I love the callback to the signature Bratz lips. The t-shirt she’s wearing underneath has the name of the designer of this set; Jimmy Paul, on it and is tied in a knot, which is really cute and it goes well with the skirt even without the jacket. I love the fact that the sleeves have lesbian flags on them, it brings the whole look together, tying it with the stockings. The golden chain along her skirt, spelling out “Bratz” is another perfect detail.
One thing I wanna mention is how the Jimmy Paul didn’t just slap a lesbian and a bisexual flag onto the dolls; they’ve incorporated them into each of the looks in clever ways that work with them. The stockings with the lesbian flag are another serve and they go perfectly with the bright pink boots.
Nevra’s outfit really gives me the vintage vibes of the box, down to the disco ball. I love her asymmetrical top, which has the colours of the pride flag on it. Her pants have stars on them that lead into the pattern at their end, which matches the rest of her outfit perfectly. I love the way her purple belt stands out and yet brings the look together, as well as the details on her pants which look like pockets. The platforms are another part of the outfit where the pride flag is. I have to admit, I would have preferred if the sole was monochromatic, with the flag being on top of the shoes, but they still look really good.
I have to mention Nevra’s amazing earrings, which are shaped like the female sign, as well as the bisexual flag made up of the three bracelets she wears, which both just feel like the perfect way to bring this outfit even higher in terms of fashion and pride.
Need I say more? I need these dolls. We all do.
“Treasures!” Jade
This is the only Bratz doll I’ve ever owned, so it is here because of nostalgia, for the most part. I don’t know if I had the first or second edition of the doll, I would be happy with either. There’s a lot to love about her, though.
While I prefer Yasmin’s outfit from this line, which Jade wore in the animated show, I really like the colour-scheme of this one, as well. Her hat is probably my favourite one out of the dolls in this line; it goes with the rest of her look so well and is a perfect highlight of it. The makeup is stunning; her teal eyeshadow and pink lip combo has a lot of contrast, making for a very bold look which draws attention to her face immediately.
I am not a fan of the rhinestones on her top, nor the motif. I think a teal top, with a ripped mesh top over it, much like the one Cloe or Yasmin wear in this line, would have fit better. While I like her skirt and the detail of the mesh underneath, making it a bit longer, while adding more ruffles would have added to the pirate feeling and taken it to another level. Her striped belt with the skull and crossbones buckle is brilliant; it is yet another highlight of the look, perfectly blending the glam of the Bratz brand with the theme of the doll line.
The boots are the part of this outfit which I remember having the most fun with; popping them on and swapping them with the flip-flops of the second outfit, of course. Look-wise, however, their height, material, and the rhinestones placed along them make them the best part of this outfit for me, right next to the makeup.
Arrg! Slay, Matey! I want to own this doll again…
Tweevils
We finally have the dolls of the Tweevils! What a cultural moment! I wanna point out how great their box looks; from the background made to look like the “Your Thing” magazine’s office, to their beautiful new logo. Iconic.
I love Kirstee’s facial expression, it communicates her personality in a subtle way. Their makeup is beautiful. Where their original character designs had a more blunt eyeshadow colour, I prefer the slightly softer shades and style of the dolls. I love the way their hair is tied into a bun, with their signature accessories added. The addition of rhinestones to Kirstee’s hair tie elevates it and breaks the pink up just enough to create some dynamic.
I’ve never liked their dresses much, so while these are faithful to their original character designs, and therefore look well-done, I can’t say I like them from a style point of view. I like them from a nostalgia point of view, however. It is now occurring to me that maybe we aren’t meant to focus on these dresses. The Tweevils are meant to be the antithesis of Bratz, so it would make sense for them to have a subdued style of clothing, which isn’t necessarily considered fashionable. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but whatever the case, they pull these dresses off and they are iconic, so they get a pass. It is also worth noting how the designers added touches of white to make these looks more interesting, but not take away from the pink. It’s subtle yet effective.
I love the shape of the shoes. They are the classic “Bratz” platform shoe, recoloured pink, but that’s why they shine. That’s the strength of these outfits; they are simple, but eye-catching. They are not meant to be fashionable, but the personal style of the characters is very much visible through the accessories, the makeup and, yes, Kaycee’s bandage. We love her for it.
They are icons, they are legends, and they ARE the moment. I stan them. Enough said.
I hope you have enjoyed this nostalgia-filled look at my wishlist. Thank you for browsing through these iconic dolls with me and listening to me gush. You are welcome to stay In The Fort for as long as you like, I would love to hear what you think of the dolls mentioned or which ones you want.
