Ranking Winx season 3 raincoats
The time Winx said: “Rain on me.”
Today, I just wanted to rank some of the outfits from season 3 of The Winx Club. Get comfy; grab a pillow, a fuzzy blanket, get some hot cocoa and let’s discuss the time The Winx slayed in the rain.
I will be commenting on the version of the outfits shown in the animated series. Since some of the outfits aren’t shown within the same frame, they will have multiple pics.
Tecna
I get that they were going for a more unique look for Tecna, and while I appreciate it, this is not one of her best outfits. The biggest problem with this outfit is the hood. The shape of it is awkward, and its pattern clashes with the stripes of the top. The flowers of the pattern remind me of Spongebob. It seems like the Solarian designer was hinting at the Nick collaboration. Had the hood been in a solid colour, or just replaced with a hat akin to Flora’s or Musa’s, it would suit Tecna way more.
The shorts look like they are a part of a different outfit, which Tecna would have rocked. It feels like the hood and the shorts were supposed to be the statement pieces, but the statement had some grammatical errors. In a different colour they could have worked better with this outfit. Lilac would have been nice, maybe with some green accents, or blue ones to match the pockets on the top.
Another thing that makes me dislike this outfit is the number of colours the pattern of the top and the boots has. It is too busy. While I love the idea of it, the colours of the pattern should have been limited to two or three. Another option would have been to use a few shades of the same colour, letting the pockets of the top be the accents, along with the heel of the boots.
The overall silhouette of this outfit is quite well-done and unique, but it has way too many colours. I love you, Tecna, but somehow you were done dirty… in the rain.
Stella
It hurts me, so bad, to rank Stella’s outfit so low. Going forward, none of the outfits stand out as particularly bad, so it’s really hard to rank them. These are some of my favourite outfits of the season, thus I have to look at every little detail.
Overall, this outfit is cute. It has a good silhouette and a great colour palette. I adore the way the green coat is accented with the pink belt, and how the colour of the belt carries over onto the trim of the sleeves. The blue gloves feel like the pop of colour the green needs. They are incorporated perfectly into this outfit. However, I really dislike the colours and the design of the hat. The neon green and orange pattern, as well as the shape of the hat, make it look like an easter egg. Had the shape been more defined, loose and unique, as opposed to how oval and tight it is, the colours could have worked. The pattern would need to be changed in that case, or completely removed. I like the attempt to tie it together with the outfit with the pink trim and the orange bandana on Stella’s neck, though.
Where the silhouette and the colour scheme of the coat are beautiful, its pattern is not stellar. The stars are quite big, so they should have been further apart from one another. As for the shoes, I love their style and the green and pink scheme goes well with the rest of the outfit. Even their height is perfect.
Stella’s tailor served with this outfit, for the most part. He made a gorgeous outfit, but forgot to make the hat.
Bloom
I love Bloom in pink and blue and this outfit is no exception, though it does have its weak points. For once, I love the way her hat compliments the rest of her outfit. It’s a beautiful pop of colour and shape in the existing colour palette and silhouette. Don’t get me started on the details on the hat or this post will be even longer.
The pattern on the sleeves under the coat is a bit distracting, but it’s not terrible. It’s there and adds something more interesting to them. The coat is great and so is the way in which the bright green belt breaks its monochromatic design up. The matching gloves are another strong point of the outfit, especially since the colour of their accents matches the one of the straps on the belt. Actually, there seems to be another shirt that Bloom is wearing, in addition to the previously mentioned one. Girl, can you breathe? While we can only see its sleeves, the layering of the outfit elevates the outfit.
The more I look at these outfits, the more details I notice and appreciate. The one thing I notice and don’t appreciate so much is the shorts, which seem to match the material of the coat. Had they been pants, going into the boots, they would have looked better. Speaking of the boots; due to how complex the outfit is, they should have been monochromatic. The green trimming on them and the bows on the sides, make them look uncoordinated compared to the rest of the outfit. While I really like the top part of the outfit, the bottom part falls short.
The tailor had enough energy to make the top part of the outfit fire, the rest is lukewarm.
Musa
Musa’s outfit reflects her personality very well, it’s unique, colourful, and has a certain edge to it. It’s bold and stylish and I love it. However, it falls short when it comes to the hat, much like Stella’s and Tecna’s. I like the shape of it, but I dislike the colour scheme. As I’ve said, I would have preferred it on Tecna, with her usual shades of purple and green.
That top and skirt combo? I adore it. I especially adore the way shorter sleeves of her jacket give way to the longer sleeves underneath. It creates just the right level of detail and elevates the outfit to another level. The fact that her scarf has the same pattern as the longer sleeves makes me wanna squeal with happiness. The details on the jacket go perfectly with the pattern, as well. It’s all these things that make this outfit unmistakably Musa – taking her casual style and elevating it for the occasion.
The skirt is very beautiful. While it doesn’t take much away from the rest of the outfit, I wish the belt was a different shape. Musa’s shoes aren’t ever shown in detail, but from what I can see, they are teal knee-high boots which have some multi-coloured socks underneath. In a perfect world, we would have seen the whole outfit up close, and the socks would have matched the sleeves and the scarf. However, even like this, Musa slayed.
This outfit is great, but why does it always have to be the wrong hat… Musa still pulls it off though. Somehow.
Flora
The simplistic design of this outfit is where it shines. Flora is not the loudest in the room, nor does she need to be. Her strengths and quieter nature coexist simultaneously, with more and more of her personality shining through the more you get to know her. Similarly, the more you look at this outfit, the more you notice how brilliant it is. The hat is beautiful in its styling, by far my favourite of the bunch, especially the little flowers on the side and the way it crumples up at the base. Peak aesthetic!
The coat is hot pink with a pastel trim around the collar. Flora wears a turtleneck sweater underneath it, which is the same colour as the trim. The added pink belt creates cohesion in the outfit and lets the blue flower-shaped buttons be its focal point. While the obvious finishing touches might have been the gloves, the way her sleeves are rolled up adds some flare to the whole look.
While I can see why the stockings are green, with a bit of pink, I wish they were either pink or green tights. The second of the stockings colour seems unnecessary as the shoes already contrast them well enough, highlighting both parts of the outfit. The ankle boots themselves are the perfect choice for this look, made even more fitting by their pink accents.
This is one of my favourite Flora outfits. She conquered and thrived in the rain, as the fairy of nature she is!
Aisha
I mean, we all knew this was coming. This outfit is everything and it will always be everything. The hat is iconic. It manages to be both original within the group, while being fashionable.
The colour scheme of this look is interesting to me, compared to the others. Pink and purple dominate, leaving blue to be the accent colour. The green however ties the whole thing together, without being noticeable at first glance and only being obvious on the belt – whereas the other outfits like to openly display all the colours. In this one, the green subtly controls where the viewer’s attention goes and balances the outfit out overall.
The actual coat has to be my favourite part of this outfit. The sparkly front contrasts the solid lilac material beautifully. The hot pink pockets add functionality and style. I feel like that also speaks to Aisha’s character; she is fashionable, but always has a hint of adventure and being prepared for anything, but maybe that’s me over analysing. As if that wasn’t enough, the pale blue and the hot pink of the glows, bring the coat up to a ten.
Moving onto the bottom part of the outfit, I think the stockings could have been better. While I like their length and the continuation of the pale blue, I dislike the green pattern. They would have looked better without it. The shoes have a similar problem. The pattern makes them look a tiny bit frog-like. Without the pattern, they would have looked much more serious and stylish. On the other hand, had the stockings been plain, and had the shoes kept their pattern, the combo would still look good. The patterns clash the way they are now.
Despite its shortcomings, this outfit is top-tier. It is the best one out of the bunch. With its design, it manages to stay on theme with the others, while still being distinct and true to Aisha. It is safe to say that she rains supreme.
Thank you for joining me In The Fort today, and I hope you had fun reading my thoughts on these queens’ iconic fashion. I made a few corny jokes here and there, and I don’t plan on stopping in the future. I genuinely love the Winx and our fandom and would love to hear your opinions over some hot cocoa. Feel free to share them in the comments!
